The Gerald W. Lynch Theater is dedicated to the presentation of performing arts programming of all disciplines with a special focus on how the artistic imagination can shed light on the many perceptions of justice in our society. Reporting directly to the Managing Director at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, the successful candidate will be responsible for both internal and external clients in the Gerald W. Lynch Theater and related venues on campus. The performing arts facilities on campus include: Gerald W. Lynch Theater and Black Box Theater. Classrooms and conference rooms are also frequently used to supplement the use of the performing arts facilities.

In addition to the responsibilities listed in the CUNY Title Overview, the duties will be as follows:

  • Oversee technical management of a performing arts facility; Manage events and activities for more than 250+ active days in the theater annually. Nights, weekends and holidays may be required;

  • Act as liaison between client and crew to execute all events with an extremely high standard of professionalism, discretion, customer service, and respect for Clients as well as other College staff;

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and schedule a roster of 60+ stage hands and technical personnel, maintaining high level of customer service with all clients and college departments;

  • Assist outside technical personnel in scheduling and managing production activities;

  • Prepare and maintain accurate drafting and technical information for the theatre and facilities;

  • Work with the General Manager and Campus Public Safety Office to coordinate event and security plans for theater events;

  • Work with Campus Engineering, Facilities, Space Planning, DOIT to manage HVAC, Wi-Fi, maintenance and construction in the Theater;

  • Assist with the planning and oversight of all capital improvement, maintenance and safety programs for the theater; Develop capital equipment requests and work closely with College Procurement Office in acquisition of capital equipment; Manage equipment and inventory, evaluating, selection and implementation system upgrades and new equipment.

  • Assure compliance with appropriate regulations regarding safety and building characteristics.

  • Participate in labor contract negotiations with IATSE Local 1.


Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.


Administers performing arts center programs, as well as productions in other College venues throughout the year.

  • Assists management in program planning and goal-setting

  • Participates in building relationships between the center and external community and arts organizations

  • Collaborates with College academic and administrative departments to assure successful programs

  • Trains and supervise center staff

  • Assists with routine administration such as booking, scheduling, and maintenance of systems and equipment

  • Plans, prepares, and implements center-wide marketing plans

  • Coordinates efforts with technical personnel on designing and building of productions

  • Performs related duties as assigned. .
