The City College of New York has an opening at the Full Professor rank for a nationally and internationally recognized candidate in the area of Remote Sensing applications to Earth System Science, focusing on one or more topical areas related to Coastal Waters and Resiliency, Atmosphere/Weather/Air Quality, and Water Prediction/Ecosystem services. The successful candidate must demonstrate broad expertise in the state-of­ the-art remote sensing techniques, technologies, and algorithms. The candidate must have an extensive record of publication and funding with demonstrated capacity to lead major interdisciplinary research and investigative projects as well as a record of collaboration with major national and international agencies. There also must be evidence that the candidate will continue to actively serve as a leading scholar in his/her academic field and serve as a senior lead scientist in NOAA-Cooperative Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (NOAA-CREST) Center. In that capacity, the candidate is expected to maintain an outstanding record of research accomplishment; develop and manage significant research projects; and facilitate and coordinate scientific research between federal/state agencies and industry and the NOAA CREST Center. The successful candidate should be able to teach courses in both undergraduate as well as graduate levels in topics related to Earth System Science and Engineering and Remote Sensing and engage in mentoring students and postdoctoral fellows. The successful candidate will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Depending on the qualification and background of the successful candidate, they will be homed in an appropriate department in the Science Division or Grove School of Engineering at The City College of New York.


Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant science or engineering field. At least 12 years of experience with a distinguished record as evidenced by publications and research funding of extensive experience in leading research in Earth system sciences with the emphasis on remote sensing preferred.
