The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM will graduate its first MD class in 2020. CSOM also has a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies (PA). Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care. Individuals appointed as Clinical Professors - Medical Series are experienced practitioners or teachers in their professions or fields of expertise. The responsibilities of the position include teaching (including, in some cases, clinical instruction), and may include research. Clinical Professors - Medical Series are full-time, non-tenure track positions.

CSOM is seeking a Clinical Professor-Med Series to serve in a full-time non-tenure track position as Professor of Clinical Faculty Development. The Professor of Clinical Faculty Development will work with the Associate Dean of Clinical Medical Education to create and assist in the delivery of a faculty development program that supports clinical faculty in their work to accomplish the goals of the school. The incumbent will perform needs assessments at the school’s clinical sites to determine faculty development needs, conduct research on appropriate mechanisms and resources necessary to provide the faculty development, and deliver faculty development content.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, maintain, enhance and expand the faculty’s ability to provide education that meets the educational competencies of the program by providing teaching workshops, seminars, online teaching modules, written materials, and other effective modes of teaching.

  • Assess effectiveness of faculty development sessions and improve teaching based on assessments.

  • In collaboration with other faculty and staff, produce publishable work in academic support for students, using the work to improve education at the school as well as disseminating methods to others through publication.

  • Perform ongoing needs assessments at the school’s clinical sites; develop educational interventions to respond to the needs assessment.

  • Plan, develop, and collaborate with other medical education faculty on research relevant to the faculty development or educational enterprise.

  • Perform teaching and research in their area of expertise.

  • Maintain records of what faculty development opportunities are offered, where it is offered, and the faculty members who attended.

  • Provide CQI data regarding clinical faculty development to the CQI coordinator.

  • Contact residency programs of medical school graduates to evaluate their performance in residency and correlate it with their academic performance in medical school.

  • Serve on committees relevant to faculty and curriculum.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


A doctoral degree (M.D.) with preference toward holding a master's in public health

Candidates should have the following:

  • Experience in supporting student academic success, expertise in adult education, medical school experience preferred, solid record of published research.

  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment of excellence, productivity, integrity, collaboration, and a record of achievement in his/her profession or field of expertise

They must have demonstrated satisfactory qualities of personality and character, a record of achievements in his/her profession or field of expertise, and a willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
