FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM will graduate its first MD class in 2020. CSOM also has a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies (PA). Our PA Program is a 28-month graduate program leading to a M.S. degree and certification as a Physician Assistant pending successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination. We are one of the first degree-granting physician assistant programs in the country. Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial backgrounds historically under-represented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care. With our reputation for excellence we have earned national acclaim for performance and a broad network of clinical sites for clerkships.

Medical Distinguished Lecturers perform teaching in areas of expertise and related clinical and faculty duties. Are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold a full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment. Distinguished Lecturers share responsibility for committee, program, and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Physician Assistant Program is currently searching for a Medical Distinguished Lecturer to serve as Research and Assessment Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean/Program Director, duties will include:

Teaching PA 50220 Preventive Medicine, PA 70110 Epidemiology, PA 70210 Research Methods, Developing research capstone project. Examples are: 1) Evidence-based inquiry of clinical subject, and 2) Community Oriented Primary Care-based inquiry.

Program Administration duties include:

  • Periodic course and program assessment

  • Developing annual comprehensive assessment of student outcomes

  • Participating in all program committees

  • Helping identify faculty development projects and areas of research

  • Developing scholarly projects and participates in PAEA

  • Serving as a Faculty Advisor for students

  • Participating in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation

  • Participating in program faculty/staff search committees

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree is required, doctoral degree preferred. Must have knowledge of and commitment to the physician assistant profession. Also required are a record of achievement in his/her profession or field of expertise and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
