CAMPUS-SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Research Assistant: Humanities Transfer Pathway Project. The Research Assistant will coordinate activities for the newly formed CUNY Justice Academy (CJA) Humanities Transfer Pathway Project at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and will report to the Director of General Education and Educational Partnerships.

The Humanities Transfer Pathway project is a two-year initiative to develop a sustainable transfer student pathway for humanities majors at John Jay College to engage in justice-focused learning and employment goals through the intentional alignment of curricula, redesign of experiential learning opportunities, and contextualized career and advising supports, from pre-matriculation to degree completion and employment preparation.

The program offers students the opportunity to study justice as a set of principles from which they can examine the world and its phenomenon. Undergraduate transfers will apply the "humanistic lens" developed in coursework at John Jay to professional settings and/or real-world problems, via experiential learning and internship courses. The development of links to organizations and opportunities outside the classroom will further invigorate the justice focus in our humanities curricula. Increasing representation of underrepresented groups majoring in the humanities will help to develop future members of the workforce and the academy who can probe design, technology, education, healthcare, and policy issues with a humanistic lens that reflects a wider range of histories, experiences, beliefs, and socioeconomic strata.

Working in collaboration with the leadership team in Undergraduate Studies at John Jay College, and with faculty and staff from across the CUNY system, the Research Assistant will:

  • Research and coordinate the development and implementation of articulation agreements for transfer of liberal arts and humanities majors from CUNY community colleges to John Jay College;

  • Document and support the activities of the Humanities Transfer Pathways Council;

  • Support faculty in research related to course development and implementation activities;

  • Support staff in the development of advising, recruitment and student transitions materials and activities;

  • Create and maintain a project webpage in collaboration with other campus-based humanities initiatives;

  • Contribute to assessment and project documentation activities for internal and external reporting; and

  • Support professional development activity design and implementation for student leaders, faculty and staff as needed.

The start date for this temporary/grant funded position is January 4, 2021 and will continue until July 31, 2022.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in education, humanities, instructional design, or related field.

  • Two to three years of work experience in higher education.

  • One year teaching, curriculum development or instructional design experience in higher education.

  • Understanding of student-centered philosophies of teaching and learning.

  • Proficiency with Wordpress or other web publishing platforms.

  • Experience with highly collaborative project management with diverse stakeholders.

  • Work or research experiences related to transfer student academic and professional success.

  • Proficiency with full suite of basic workplace software, including: Microsoft 365, Google Suite, Dropbox, and Outlook or similar email client.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

COMPENSATION

$54,957 plus benefits.

Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
