The Graduate Center, CUNY is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master’s programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center’s commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences.

The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni—who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City’s intellectual and cultural life.

The Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences (ITS) goal is to provide a home for research and teaching, emphasizing theoretical approaches to the natural sciences. Participants of ITS are interested in a wide range of phenomena, from the elementary building blocks of matter to the dynamics of social systems, from the collective behavior of electrons in solids to the collective behavior of neurons in the brain, and more. What ties these disparate problems together is the search for a compact and compelling mathematical description of the world around us. ITS is a community of faculty, post-doctoral fellows, students and visitors. ITS hosts a wide range of events, from single seminars to day-long symposia and longer conferences.

ITS seeks a Research Associate/Post-doctoral Fellow who will carry out research in collaboration with members of ITS and independently. The Fellow will participate in the scientific activities of ITS, take part in the seminars and symposia at the ITS, and interact with faculty, other postdocs, graduate students, and visiting researchers. The Fellow will also take part in organizing some of the scientific events at ITS. The Fellow will be expected to present their research locally, at other institutions, and at international conferences. The Fellow will be expected to publish their research findings in leading scientific journals. This position reports to Vladimir Rosenhaus and the duration of the position is up to three years.

Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.

The Post-doctoral Fellow will have had a strong record of research within theoretical high energy physics and/or theoretical condensed matter physics.
