The Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) is dedicated to providing cutting edge graduate degree programs and to identifying, designing, implementing and evaluating public health initiatives that promote social justice. The mission of the school is to promote public health policies to improve the health of populations. CUNY SPH faculty members are recognized leaders in health policy, community health interventions, epidemiology and biostatistics, and public health informatics, among other areas. Faculty and students are actively engaged in promoting healthy cities in a healthy world. CUNY SPH is located in a new vertical campus in the heart of Harlem in New York City.


Reporting to the Research Program Director, the Research Program Manager will serve as the title and will be responsible for the following:

  • Develops and implements methods, policies, procedures and systems to facilitate strategic initiatives for the school.

  • Develops and oversees communication systems relating to the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (SPaR) for the School.

  • Prepares research portions of print and electronic materials for the School, such as annual reports, accreditation reports, promotional materials, policy and procedure manuals and other publications.

  • Prepares and edits reports, briefings, presentations, correspondence and confidential material for the Dean, often under tight deadlines.

  • Serves as a liaison between various constituencies both within and outside the School and the University.

  • Assists in preparing reports.

  • Assists P.I.'s to manage program funds and reimbursements.

  • Assists in the maintenance of internal and administrative workflow and task organization.

  • Provides research support to the Principal Investigator and other research associates.

  • Facilitates communication between researchers, research assistants, and staff.

  • Develops and coordinates center events, including logistics, advertising, and financial management.

  • Balances project support while maintaining internal administrative workflow and task organization

  • Establishes and maintains responsive relationships with faculty partners, university management, and research assistants.


Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

The successful candidate will bring to the position an exceptional background in research

administration, including broad and deep knowledge of compliance regulations, issues and strategies, and have a track record of proven success implementing the components of a strong research compliance program in a collaborative environment. S/he will have outstanding interpersonal skills, a collaborative style, and a reputation for successfully working with faculty and staff to implement new policies, procedures, and programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication, analytic, diplomatic, interpersonal, time management, multi-tasking and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of and expertise with university research initiatives; including experience in preparing reports for university, foundation,

accrediting, governmental or other bodies.

  • Excellent written and oral communication with diverse groups within and beyond the College.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and presenting effective training materials and sessions.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to interact with high-level executives within and outside the School and University.

  • Research and service project management.

  • Follow through on assignments with minimal direction, independently prioritize work, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.


Manages College research programs and provides support for related compliance activities.

  • Administers various aspects of research programs including submission reviews, compliance education, and project protocols

  • Provides administrative support and guidance to researchers and administrators with regards to applicable federal, state, local, University, and College regulations, laws, and policies

  • Ensures investigators and key personnel complete required training

  • Delivers or oversees educational training on research and related activities such as research subject rules and protocols, research compliance and integrity, etc.

  • Monitors research subject care and use to ensure safety measures are met

  • Serves as primary contact with other College departments and external organizations on research program needs and activities

  • Collects information on, monitors, and reports on the advancement and completion of research projects and compliance

  • May administer grant funds, prepare proposals, and research potential funding sources

  • May manage program administrative and clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience up to $71,723.
