GENERAL DUTIES

IT Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology. They perform development/programming, communications, technical support, and similar functions in their areas of expertise. Work may include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving problems in highly complex projects.

IT Senior Associates have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group. They demonstrate mastery of technology-related discipline(s) and decision-making ability in area(s) of expertise. They serve as a resource and contribute to policies and technical standards.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Under the direction of the Director of Application Development Services, the applicant will lead the design and development of our data platforms.

The primary responsibilities include keeping the databases up and running and providing a seamless flow of information throughout the college considering both back-end data structure and front-end accessibility for end users. The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge in database design and use of SQL transactional coding to develop store procedures, triggers and views as well as create indexes. A service-oriented mentality, ability to communicate with technology customers to keep them updated on project and issue status, and comfort initiating and performing changes on production systems to ensure our data warehouse performance meets the college’s requirements is also desirable. The applicant must be comfortable interacting with upper management to enhance services provided by the OIT.

The individual will work closely with other IT professionals, in particular other systems administrators, network administrators, developers, IT security administrators and third-party vendors. The scope of this position includes, but it is not limited to, the following:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Analyze business requirements and technical specifications, and architect solutions with high performance.

  • Minimize database downtime and perform query optimization to provide fast query responses.

  • Support Microsoft SQL Servers/MySQL Server databases including replication.

  • Monitor Microsoft SQL Server activity on a proactive basis and tune the system for optimal performance.

  • Manage/Maintain Microsoft SQL Server backups and security.

  • Create and manage SSIS packages.

  • Collaborates with end users in the design and development of custom Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards, metrics and reports.

  • Create dashboard and reporting solutions to meet user needs and requirements. Ensures development of entire dashboard life cycle including coding, unit testing, bug fixes and report design.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot ETL jobs daily using BCP, DTSRUN, SSIS and other tools

  • Maintain error and system maintenance lobs.

  • Maintain the servers and databases that support web applications with student and staff data. The applications involved are in Visual Studio .Net, PHP and ColdFusion with SQL Server for data management and Active Directory for Identity Management.

  • Provide mentoring, guidance and general oversight to less experienced staff in SQL design.

  • Optimize and execute scripts, procedures and queries that accompany production code deployments.

  • Create software specifications from market, business and user-level requirements.

  • Participate in defining and developing technical specifications to meet college systems’ requirements.

  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity and monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches/updates when required.

  • Create and maintain stored procedures with PL/SQL and My SQL.

  • Develop mapping and data visualization applications.

  • Provide operations support when necessary to ensure continuity of operations.

  • Resolve complex problems in area of expertise, with little or no supervision, notifying others according to department procedure. Explain problem resolutions to others, and instruct others in implementing them.

  • Participate in, and reports on, studies of current and potential problems, developing appropriate solutions.

  • Undertake other responsibilities and perform duties under other titles, as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ Years of SQL Database Administration experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical field required

  • Expert in creation and optimization of Microsoft SQL query design and high proficiency in Microsoft Windows Servers

  • Sound attention to detail and ability to think strategically

  • Highly talented, highly creative, dynamic contributor

  • Business Intelligence tool like SSRS/Power BI/ Tableau

  • Proficient in creating dashboards and custom reports

  • Oracle 11g

COMPENSATION

$91,298
