IT Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology. They perform development/programming, communications, technical support, and similar functions in their areas of expertise. Work may include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving problems in highly complex projects.

IT Senior Associates have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group. They demonstrate mastery of technology-related discipline(s) and decision-making ability in area(s) of expertise. They serve as a resource and contribute to policies and technical standards.

IT Senior Associate




The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) support the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 25 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications; develops new technologies that advance University's core mission; builds, upgrades and maintains the University's network; operates the University's Data Center and help desk; develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans; and leads the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, covering student administration, financial management, and human resources.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Application Services, the Senior FileNet Engineer will oversee all technical aspects related to supporting CUNY's Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system, FileNet.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, administer, and configure ECM FileNet system to integrate with University applications

  • Design, develop, test, and install application enhancements, functionality, and upgrades to meet business needs

  • Collaborate with vendors for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies

  • Analyze, diagnose and resolve application errors

  • Facilitate productive planning with business process owners to understand short and long-term business needs to properly develop enterprise-wide solutions for content management and preserve service integrity

  • Participate in the planning and testing of interfaces between CUNYfirst (PeopleSoft), and CUNY's administrative applications, while ensuring application functionalities are not compromised by upgrades or new components

  • Collaborate with Administrative Application Support team and departmental work teams such as Development, Networking, Operations, and Systems.

  • Represent CIS on University councils and committees related to the applications supported by FileNet

  • Document standard operating procedures, knowledge articles and best practices

  • Train and support of IT staff in supporting ECM applications

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job duties require schedule flexibility and willingness to work evenings or weekends as required for systems related tasks.


  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.


The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience architecting, deploying, and supporting IBM FileNet P8 suite of ECM products, including but not limited to Case Manager, DataCap, and Process Task Manager.

  • Experience integrating FileNet with enterprise level applications.

  • Familiarity with supporting applications in UNIX/Linux and Microsoft Windows environments.

  • Knowledge of configuring WebSphere with a special attention in integrating diverse platforms a plus.

  • Proficiency in XML, CSS, SQL scripting, Java API, and Javascript.

  • Working knowledge of image and document formats.

  • Strong understanding of concepts, practices, and procedures related to content management systems and workflows, Content Lifecycle Management, and project management.

  • Strong cross-functional knowledge in business cases, modern technologies, architecture, infrastructure, security, operations, performance and service management among other IT concepts, strategies and methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of multi-tier architecture and cross platform integrations.

  • Expertise in data analysis - analyzing and synthesizing complex data.

  • Highly self-motivated and keen attention to details

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong customer-service orientation.

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after July 1, 2019 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after July 1, 2019 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.

An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
