CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban and Community Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service. Through SLU’s Murphy Institute, the School: 1) collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to provide workers with the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement, and 2) provides educational and research services to the labor movement and the broader community.

The Murphy Institute's LEAP to Teacher (LTT) empowers participants to become more effective in their classrooms and more impactful in their communities. This specialized set of support services is offered at four different CUNY campuses and available to Paraprofessionals and other United Federation of Teachers (UFT) members pursuing a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or advanced certificate in any field of study, including teaching. SLU is seeking to hire a site coordinator for the LTT program at Lehman College. The LTT coordinator reports to the LTT Program manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of recruitment for the program, which includes phone/ text banking, mailings, and other related activities.

  • Conduct monthly Open House and Information Sessions.

  • Prepare and update open house PowerPoint presentations and informational materials.

  • Provide pre-admission advisement and follow up with prospective students.

  • Meet with potential applicants, ensure that they all complete the intake forms, and organize and maintain students' intake forms and folders.

  • Maintain a database of inquiries, prospective and continuing LTT students

  • Advise LTT students about registration and other matters. Attend LTT coordinators' meetings at JSMI or other LTT Sites.

  • Communicate regularly with LTT students and provide informative emails regarding the School of Education/ Education Department, College, DOE, LTT program important news, announcement and deadlines.

  • Provide information about possible scholarships and grants such as BOCES and TEACH and assist LTT applicants in applying.

  • Prepare and submit a weekly report, complete and update the tracking chart services weekly.

  • Interface with Lehman administration areas (e.g., Registrar, Bursar, Student, Affairs, Financial Aid, Bursar offices) also with the School of Education faculty, administration, program coordinators and staff as well as other academic departments as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field, Advanced degree preferred.

  • Two years of related work experience.

  • Knowledge of CUNY academic, administrative system preferred

  • Knowledge of NY State Teacher Certification Programs, Education Majors, and Teacher Certification Exams preferred

  • Experience with adult and/or worker education programs preferred.

  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment, carry out complex assignments, and adapt to changing situations and priorities preferred.

  • Ability and desire to work in the late afternoon/ evening and some weekends

COMPENSATION

Starting at $44.69 per hour for up to 15 hours per week.
