The Stella and Charles Guttman Community College is the City University of New York’s newest community college in 40 years. As a very young institution, Guttman Community College requires flexibility and a broad range of skills and competencies from candidates in every position. Located in midtown Manhattan, Guttman was established with the goal of significantly improving student learning, retention and graduation, by rethinking community college education and practice. Guttman Community College is a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a culturally diverse student body drawn from across New York City. A majority of our students enroll directly out of high school. The College is committed to using a range of innovative approaches in order to achieve its goals and to improve student persistence and completion. The centerpiece of Guttman’s educational model is an integrated first-year core curriculum that builds the academic, linguistic and affective skills necessary for success in college and career. Additional features of the model include using New York City as a context for learning in and out of the classroom, the integration of academic and student support services, and the use of ePortfolios. Guttman currently offers five majors: business administration, information technology, human services, liberal arts and sciences, and urban studies, and will offer additional programs in the future. The College admitted its first cohort of 300 students in August 2012. At full capacity, Guttman will enroll 3,000 to 5,000 students. Situated in the Office of Student Engagement at Guttman Community College, this position will focus on the educational and professional readiness of students with disabilities at Guttman Community College. Reporting to the Associate Director of AccessABILITY Services, this position provides job-seeking assistance to students in the CUNY LEADS (Linking Employment Academics and Disability Services) program who are preparing for internships and employment. Student LEADS Support Specialist, based at Stella and Charles Guttman Community College will work in conjunction with the other CUNY LEADS advisors and Job Developers across the City University of New York.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include but are not limited to:
Assist the Associate Director of AccessABILITY with Career and AccessABILITY Program Assessment.
Facilitate daily operations of the Office of AccessABILITY Services to support the unit and service the college community.
Create learning materials, and integrate basic skill learning strategies to aid in students' learning experiences.
Conduct individual advisement and workshops on job readiness such as resume writing, interview preparation, advocacy, disclosure and other topics.
Develop and place students in internship and mentoring opportunities.
Assist with the provision of assistive technology and assessments as indicated.
Build positive work relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders and industry Partners.
Attend CUNY LEADS monthly meetings and participate in centralized initiatives as appropriate
Records student contacts and activities in CUNY's "Efforts to Outcomes”, Titanium Software and CUNY First databases.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.
Master's degree and experience working in academic, career advisement or job placement functions with students with disabilities preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; should demonstrate proficiency in computer and database skills. Prefer experience serving individuals from cross-disability backgrounds and knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act and other key disability legislation.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides students in the CUNY LEADS program with advice and support to make academic and career choices that lead to successful employment outcomes. LEADS stands for "Linking Employment, Academics and Disability Services".
Recruits CUNY students into the LEADS program based on established criteria
Coordinates services with other college units including disability and career services offices
Coordinates services with outside agencies as needed
Advises students on job readiness and placement, and on linking academic programs to short- and long-term career goals
Conducts group workshops and provides individualized advice on career skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, advocacy, and disclosure issues
Develops internship and mentoring opportunities and makes student placements
Records contacts and activities in CUNY's "Efforts to Outcomes" database
Applies knowledge of issues and developments in disability-related law (such as the A.D.A.) and in disability advocacy
Collaborates with other LEADS professionals on University-wide communications and initiatives
Performs related duties as assigned.

$49,253 - $53,191
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
