Student Life Specialist will report to the BMCC Single Stop Director or designee. This person will:

  • Assist in overseeing the daily activities of BMCC Single Stop services through a combination of direct service and program coordination.

  • Work with the Director to align and coordinate the integration of internal and external partnering service providers into holistic service to the BMCC community.

  • Assist with the student intake process, assess needs of students, facilitate referrals to internal and external partners, and follow-up with both students and partners regarding referrals and outcomes.

  • Ensure that the proper documentation of all student data, including contact, referrals, and outcomes is entered into Single Stop's case management database in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Assist in the operation of the Panther Pantry and SNAP application process, including but not limited to: screening for SNAP benefits, distributing of food from Panther Pantry to students, and Panther Pantry organization.

  • Aid in monitoring the emergency funds account.

  • Share in the responsibility for the coordination of the free tax preparation program for the BMCC community.

  • Oversee and monitor scheduling of client appointments partner providers, including but not limited to legal and financial counselors.

  • Produce reports and provide recommendations as needed.

  • Recruit and supervise volunteers for BMCC Single Stop program support as needed.

  • Assist with outreach to agencies and organizations, both internal and external, to provide referrals outside of the BMCC Single Stop services.

  • Implement an assessment and survey program that will evaluate learning outcomes and best practices.

  • Provide assistance with major college-wide events, such as: commencement, orientation, registration and honors convocation.

  • Participate in campus-wide retention and persistence outreach and activities.

  • Some evening and weekend hours as needed.


Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

  • Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in Social Work, Public Policy, Public Administration, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field required. Licensed Social Workers preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of related work experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting and/or in higher education.

  • Experience working with a large student population.

  • Experience with, and commitment to, working with low-income families and individuals.

  • Possess superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with attention to detail and proven leadership

  • Ability to work independently and on a team and collaborate with multiple offices and constituencies on new programs.

  • Be a dynamic individual who can provide courteous and accurate customer service to all students, visitors and the campus community

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including MS Outlook, Excel), Student databases. Experience with Social Media and Adobe Photoshop a plus.


  • Develops and implements programming, services, and learning opportunities for students, promoting the personal development of a diverse student population.

  • Administers one or more student affairs programs, providing program management, assistance with policy development, supervision and training of all professional and support staff, budget monitoring, and report preparation

  • Serves as a resource to student groups and/or populations as a consultant and advocate for their concerns

  • Researches and stays current on higher education programs, trends, and issues with student impact

  • Produces workshops and materials to support student programs; manages on-line communities; develops on-line social networking activities, and develops and maintains multimedia content on program web sites

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary $49,253 - $58,812 ($50,238 - $59,988, hired after 11/15/2020)
