The mission of the Graduate Center’s Wellness Center has two important components. The first is to support and enhance the wellbeing and success of graduate students at the Graduate Center through excellent psychological counseling and referral services, outreach, and health education. The second component is to provide excellent clinical training to student mental health clinicians. Infused through all we do are our commitments to multicultural humility and equity.
The Student Psychological Counselor assists in the clinical, administrative, training and outreach activities of the Wellness Center - Student Counseling Services (SCS), functioning as a primary provider of direct clinical services and supervision, and as a senior member of the Center's professional staff. The SCS provides evaluation, consultation, referral services, and time-limited counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples and groups, as well as academic support services (workshops, consultations, and related programs) to the 3,000+ member masters and doctoral student body. The SCS is a training site for pre-doctoral clinical, counseling, and social work externs. The SCS conducts evaluation research on its activities and outcomes.
This position will report to the Director of the Wellness Center.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides psychological and academic counseling services to diverse masters and doctoral students as a member of a team.
Performs intake and assessment.
Provides individual, couples and group counseling.
Provides assistance with referrals.
Conducts crisis interventions and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care for high-risk students.
Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues when appropriate.
Coordinates, prepares and presents outreach initiatives and workshops.
Provides clinical supervision and evaluation of pre-doctoral trainees.
Provides didactic - clinical training seminars to staff/trainees.
Participates in recommending and making improvements at the SCS.
Performs other related administrative, clinical and outreach duties in support of the Center’s functioning as assigned.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to their campus (or office).
A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs
A Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling).
In addition, six years' of related, postbaccaularate, professional experience are required for all candidates.
A preferred candidate should have:
Experience with issues and concerns specific to masters- and doctoral-level education.
Competence and humility in working with diverse, multicultural graduate students.
Knowledge and experience in time-limited therapy.
Competence in psycho-dynamic, cognitive behavioral and other treatment methods.
Ability to responsively integrate treatment modalities based on the individual client.
Experience and knowledge regarding referrals for mental health care in the NYC region.
Experience dealing with issues related to academic success and completion.
Experience conducting supervision.
Experience managing crises and severe psychopathology.
Experience with couple and/or family therapy.
Basic level of competence with technology including Zoom, Outlook, Titanium or other medical record system etc.
Doctoral level training and licensure in psychology for supervising psychology doctoral students towards licensure.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$93,491-$100,329. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022, City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022, will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the Emblem Health website.
