The mission of the Baruch College Counseling Center is to help students realize their educational, career and personal goals. The Center is staffed with experienced mental health practitioners who not only work toward reducing the interference of everyday stress on goals and academic success, but who do so with a respect for multicultural issues. The Counseling Center is devoted to helping students succeed.

The Student Psychological Counselor will report to the Director of the Counseling Center and perform the following duties:

  • Conduct triage assessments and weekly individual psychotherapy to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students with a wide range of mental health issues.

  • Supervise Center trainees on their work with individual psychotherapy cases.

  • Conduct outreach presentations and workshops to students, staff, and faculty across the Baruch campus.

  • Present didactic clinical training seminars to Center training staff.

  • Conduct crisis interventions when necessary and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care for high risk students.

  • Supervise and/or conduct therapeutic groups at the Center.

  • Maintain membership in collaborative on-campus committees to improve workflow and inter-office efficiency.

  • Perform other related administrative and clinical duties in support of the Center’s functioning as needed.


  • A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs OR a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling).

  • In addition, six years' professional experience is required for all candidates.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience with a diverse, multicultural, and multilingual client population.

  • Training and/or experience that demonstrates a commitment to Multicultural Competency.

  • Experience in providing clinical supervision to trainees.

  • Training and/or experience that demonstrates proficiency in administering and/or supervising psychological testing and assessment

  • Training and/or experience in evidence-based treatment for trauma (e.g., interpersonal violence, sexual abuse, complex trauma, PTSD, working with Student Veterans).

  • Training and/or experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and/or other evidence-based modalities of group therapy.

  • Experience in writing and/or managing grants.


Provides student counseling services as a member of a team.

  • Provides psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students

  • Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations

  • Performs intake and assessment for personal counseling services

  • Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops

  • Participates in recommending improvements that will impact the counseling center's effectiveness

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
