CUNY Tutor Corps Instructional Services Manager (Multiple Positions) in New York, New York

The Tutor Corps Program at CUNY mobilizes the talent and energy of undergraduate and graduate students to increase the academic success of students in NYC public schools, in support of New York City's Algebra for All and Computer Science for All initiatives. Students from CUNY colleges who are currently majoring in STEM disciplines, particularly math and computer science, are matched with NYC Department of Education middle school classrooms across the city to provide technical expertise to teachers and students throughout the school year. Tutor Corps’ first full year of operation was in the 2017-18 academic year, with 125 tutors from 18 CUNY campuses working in over 65 NYC DOE schools. In the 2018-19 academic year, the program will provide 360 tutors to 120 host schools.

Responsibilities: The Tutor Corps Instructional Services Manager provides subject matter and pedagogical expertise to NYCDOE middle and high school teachers to facilitate the successful integration of tutors into their classrooms. Reporting to the Director of Tutor Corps, the manager plans and develops the implementation of the Tutor Corps program with NYCDOE school administrators paying special attention to student needs within each school. Furthermore, the manager partners with school administrators and classroom teachers on how best to implement programs that fit the Tutor Corps model, and manage the program’s relationships with specific NYC public middle and high schools. Other primary functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the instructional and curricular supports provided to teachers in Tutor Corps classrooms to ensure that differentiated instruction meets the needs of all learners.

  • Collect and analyze qualitative data on programmatic effectiveness, recommend modifications based on analysis and observations, and implement improvements.

  • Regularly visit middle and high schools across all five boroughs and act as the face of Tutor Corps for NYCDOE staff.

  • Communicate regularly with tutors regarding their schedules and professional development needs.

  • Work with Director to ensure tutors’ work is aligned with current research on best practices and to add to current research and NYCDOE teachers’ needs are being met.

  • Collaborate with other instructional services managers to plan and develop the details of the tutor training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Six years of STEM or special education teaching, coaching or tutoring experience required.

  • Advanced degree in STEM subjects or special education required (may count up to two years of the required working experience).

  • Knowledge of the NYC public school system and or public, urban higher education landscape.

  • Experience in multi-lingual education and curriculum development strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work and interact effectively, collaboratively, and cooperatively with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and external constituents in a large centralized public university system.

  • Strong writing, presentation, and group facilitation skills.

  • Detail oriented and accurate with sound research, analysis, and data management skills.

  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills to create and execute work plans, prioritize work, coordinate multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative, diverse, student-focused and customer responsive office.

  • Computer proficiency using administrative, financial or academic programs, systems or databases, plus Google Docs, social media platforms, and CRM tools.

  • Ability to travel to schools across the five boroughs on New York City required.
