Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Operations and Administration is responsible for all aspects of administrative, operational, and fiscal functions of the College. As chief operating officer of the College, the Vice President serves as a member of the President's Cabinet and works collaboratively with the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and other senior leaders as well as faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders of the College. The Vice President will work closely with the President and those offices responsible for corresponding operations at the City University of New York (CUNY) system and is responsible for implementing innovative processes and best business practices to enhance efficiency and efficiency and effectiveness of the College’s operations.
The Vice President oversees internal operations and administration of the College, plans short-term and long-term operational enhancement for the College in support of its mission and strategic plan, adapts organizational structures for collaboration and efficiency, and ensures organizational effectiveness by measuring and adjusting performance. The VP manages and enforces the budgetary discipline of the College and is directly responsible for day-to-day operations within the College to best serve students, staff, and faculty. The VP works collaboratively with fellow cabinet members to plan, organize, and direct institutional operations. The VP ensures quality and compliance of all internal departments with policies including but not limited to State, City, and CUNY policies and interprets them for dissemination and implementation across the College. The VP is well acquainted with higher education standards, laws, and regulations to ensure compliance and best practices.
Overseeing six offices with over 260 talented professionals, the Vice President provides vision, leadership and administrative oversight for a portfolio that include but are not limited to:
• Administrative operations including business and finance, planning and budget, and human resources, each directed by an experienced Assistant Vice President (AVP), Executive Director (ED), or Director.
o Business and Finance comprised of the Bursar, Controller, Mailroom, Property Management, Purchasing and Contracts, Receiving and Student Services Accounting. The AVP serves as the college’s internal control officer, audit liaison, and treasurer of the Bernard M. Baruch College Association, and the Bernard M. Baruch Auxiliary Enterprises Corporation.
o Planning and Budget comprised of Financial and Staff Planning, Business Process Operations and Standardization. The office aligns planning and budgeting activities and processes to maintain and develop human, physical and financial resources for the College. The Office provides timely and accurate financial information to support decision making while supporting business processes optimization across the college.
o Human Resources is responsible for all aspects of personnel recruitment, benefits, payroll, time and leave, human resources information systems, and employee relations, engagement, and development. The ED is charged with developing and implementing strategic human resource goals and objectives to improve customer service and organizational effectiveness, in alignment with institutional goals.
• Campus operations including facility planning and operations, campus security and conference center.
o Facility Planning and Operations provides facilities planning, space administration, construction management, facilities maintenance and repair, renovation, physical plant management, architectural and engineering services, custodial services and other maintenance services to the College. The AVP serves as liaison to CUNY Facilities Planning, Construction and Management, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) and other external entities on facilities related matters.
o Campus Security enforces all college and University security policies, ensures the safety and security of the campus, college property, faculty, staff, students, and members of the community who enter the college campus. The Campus Safety Director directs the work of campus peace officers and other security personnel; plans, administers and directs the overall management of the college security function.
o Conference Center comprised two state-of-the-art facilities located in the heart of New York City’s historic Gramercy Park and Flatiron neighborhood. The conference center provides prime event space for the Baruch community and for external groups.
• Oversight and support for the Baruch College Fund —a separate not-for-profits foundation with its own board of directors and controller. The Fund's assets are near $300 million; external portfolio managers are utilized for investments. The VP is expected to maintain excellent relations with the Fund Trustees and to oversee the fiscal management of the Fund.
• Manages, develops, and trains professional staff, and provides effective leadership, mentoring and coaching.
• Direct strategic initiatives or perform other related duties as assigned by the President.
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
The candidate for this executive-level position should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in higher-level business, operation and/or administrative management. A master’s degree or higher in a related field (e.g., business, law, finance, accounting, or engineering) is highly desirable. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate, manage, and partner with key stakeholders in an open, transparent, and collegial manner; superb interpersonal communication skills; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and the highest level of professional integrity and ethical practices. Experience in higher education and/or New York State operational and capital budgeting practices is highly desirable. In addition, the successful candidate should have demonstrated ability to:
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences, including the students, staff, faculty, alumni, trustees, and public officials
• Offer creative, strategic thinking with excellent planning, execution, administrative, leadership and interpersonal skills
• Conduct crisis management and serve as institutional operational lead in a wide variety of situations as required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$230,000 - $288,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
