Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Reporting to the ASAP Director, The Program Manager for Student Engagement and Persistence manages the day-to-day responsibilities of the ASAP student engagement, retention, and tutoring services. The Program Manager will manage the Supplemental Instruction and tutoring component of the ASAP program and the coordination of services for ASAP Foster Care students. In the absence of the Program Manager of Advisement, the Program Manager will assist with the advisement programming and other special student activities, as well as assist the ASAP Director in key program administrative areas.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Program Manager is also responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Provides educational and administrative management in developing diverse, inclusive communities that foster and enhance student learning and development;

• Provide guidance and oversight to the following ASAP Initiatives: Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility, Co-Curricular Programs, Special Events, Student Activities and Leadership Development, and Supplemental Instruction. Develop and implement a strategic plan that incorporates program evaluation, assessment and continuous quality improvement;

• Hire, train, and supervise frontline staff and ensure they are equipped to welcome guests, direct visitors to appropriate person or office and answer, screen, and forward phone calls;

• Monitor and assess data reports on a regular basis to ensure movement towards ASAP success benchmarks and determine student support needs;

• Manage ongoing training and professional development for ASAP advisement staff and part-time support staff;

• Manage planning and implementation of ASAP summer programming, including summer course taking, workshops, the ASAP Summer Institute, and other special student activities;

• Provide conflict resolution and mediation assistance for students as appropriate;

• Collaborate with other campus units to strengthen the support services offering and access for ASAP students;

• Supports the Director in oversight of clerical staff and required reporting and collaboration with other college units;

• May advise a limited number of students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in an appropriate discipline and six years related experience.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience supervising or leading staff

  • Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators

  • Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills

  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities

  • Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of engagement, retention and adult learning theories.

  • Strong understanding of the advisement needs of community college students.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working in special programs and/or with a cohort model.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Reporting to the ASAP Director, the ASAP Manager is responsible for the daily administration of ASAP program activities.

  • Establishes semester block programs and manages and schedules all other academic support activities such as tutoring and workshops

  • Supervises planning and implementation of ASAP summer programming, including summer course taking, workshops, and the ASAP summer institute, and other special student activities

  • Assists Financial Aid, Registrar, and Bursar in evaluating student eligibility, finalizing registration, and verifying tuition charges

  • Assists the ASAP Director with required reporting and collaboration with other college units

  • Monitors and assesses data reports on a regular basis to ensure movement towards ASAP success benchmarks and to determine student support needs

  • Oversees advisement and delivery of comprehensive support services to ASAP students

  • Supervises professional and support staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned
