FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

In 2019, Queens College launched the new Photography & Imaging BFA program which is the first and only program of its kind in all of CUNY. Candidates will be expected to serve on committees, contribute to the Photography & Imaging curriculum by developing new courses and assist in shaping the direction of the program through inter-departmental collaborations and other initiatives as well as participating in recruitment efforts for the Photography & Imaging program. Candidates will be expected to teach a variety of the required digital and darkroom courses for the major as well as any courses (new and pre-existing) that can fulfill the elective requirements for the degree. As a Tenure-Track position, candidates are expected to maintain a strong scholarship record in accordance with the QC criteria for Tenure and Promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualified candidate for the Assistant Professor of Digital Imaging position will have a Master of Fine Arts or equivalent terminal degree in photography, imaging, or related field of study. A minimum of two years of teaching related coursework in higher education required. Also, a minimum of three years of professional experience is required in photography, imaging, or a related field.

Candidates must show the ability to teach successfully and to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Candidates must demonstrate scholarship and creative achievement in photography or a related field and a creative vision for future work. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach a variety of photography and imaging courses that cover analog and digital work and will be required to show an expertise with the equipment and software needed for 3D scanning, 3D printing as well as CAD software. The candidate should be familiar with collaborative MakerSpace environments since the Department expects the candidate to utilize the QC Makerspace in their coursework. The candidate is expected to work closely with the digital imaging and fabrication labs and provide a technical and creative vision for their future development. Additional teaching experience in higher education, experience in advising students, and experience in administration, committee work, developing curriculum and procuring grants is preferred. The candidate is expected to share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
