The Aaron Copland School of Music in Queens College is currently conducting a search for an Assistant/Associate/Professor of Orchestral Studies.

The Aaron Copland School of Music invites applications for a full-time, Tenure Track at the rank of Assistant or Associate or Professor of Music (dependent on the qualifications of the successful applicant), appointment to begin Fall of 2019. The applicant will serve as the Director of the Queens College Symphony Orchestra and assume the managerial and administrative duties of the ensemble. Additional teaching duties may include other courses commensurate with the candidate's training, experience, and Departmental needs. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduates and graduates, conduct research, provide guidance in area(s) of expertise and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. The screening committee seeks to recommend appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or professor.
For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor: Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Evidence of successful orchestral conducting and college-level teaching and service. The successful candidate will possess teaching, conducting, and artistic abilities at the highest level as well as comprehensive and current knowledge of diverse orchestral repertoire. Experience directing symphony orchestras and teaching in an orchestral instrumental applied area. Two or more years of experience teaching at a College, University or Conservatory. The candidate should demonstrate a record of administrative and organization skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to foster community relationships required. Active recruitment and retention, scholarship/creative activity, and University service are expected. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of professional achievements and scholarly activity as evidenced by performances, recordings, and/or professional and academic appointments.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
