FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Classical, Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures at Queens College, the City University of New York (CUNY) has been authorized to search for a full-time, CCE (Certificate of Continuous Employment)-track lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) of Chinese and Japanese, to begin in the fall semester of 2023.
Our department offers a wide variety of courses. In addition to language courses in ancient Greek, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew, we offer courses on both ancient Western and non-Western classics and on modern Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, taught in English and in one of the foreign languages we cover. By providing linguistic and cultural knowledge, we help our students gain a solid foundation for a liberal arts education. We encourage students who have a background in the languages we teach to enhance their proficiency by taking advanced courses. Sequences of our courses may fulfill requirements for majors, minors and interdisciplinary concentrations.

At the time of application applicants should have a PhD in a relevant area and demonstrate ability to teach undergraduate Chinese and Japanese language and culture courses at all college-levels. They should also demonstrate ability to develop our Chinese and Japanese programs and to perform administrative duties for our department.
Lecturer – Doctoral Schedule salary schedule : $77,517 - $92,242.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 -- City of New York employees and employees of participating employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted.
