Reporting to the Chief CLT, the College Laboratory Technician will perform highly skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework and research. The technical staff is responsible for the programming and operation of the ET Department Computer Numerical Control milling machines which are used for printed circuit board manufacture. This includes the maintenance and operation of CAD/CAM software packages necessary to operate the milling machinery used by faculty and students to design and manufacture printed circuit boards. Operate and maintain manufacturing machinery, various milling machines, material analyzing devices, 3D printers and automated systems.

The ET Department maintains fifteen modern laboratory rooms, all of which contain state-of-the-art, well maintained equipment of all types. Furthermore, all of the laboratory computer systems have been integrated with a state-of-the-art lecture presentation system (Insight by Faronics), which enables the instructor to broadcast material to every computer screen, monitor each workstation, and control each individual computer system. High definition display panels and or SmartBoard systems are also included in all laboratories. In addition to the General Duties, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides support to faculty and students in Engineering Technology via technology support, operation and basic maintenance

  • Inspects, diagnosis, and maintains equipment, computer/electronic systems, and audio/video equipment. Identifies defective equipment for repair or replacement to ensure efficient operation of ET computer labs

  • Assists in the maintenance and administration of department network computer servers, maintains and upgrades software in multiple ET computer labs and classrooms

  • Purchases specifications for electronics laboratory instrumentation and equipment

  • Maintains a friendly, supportive atmosphere for students, staff, faculty and the public and ensures computer labs adhere to safety controls and proper working conditions

  • Selects appropriate equipment to meet the technology needs of the department, maintaining requisitions for adequate stocking of supplies and laboratory consumables

  • Assists with design, construction and fabrication of custom laboratory experimental equipment, electric and electronic circuits, prototypes, and apparatus to determine suitability for current and future lab experiments

  • Coordinates maintenance and support of the ET Department Science Building electronic and computer laboratories, and arranges for the repair of equipment

  • Works with student aides and student interns for the maintenance and distribution of laboratory supplies and equipment, including assembly of student kits and components

  • Set-up of displays, demonstrations and lab support for classes and student projects and research

  • Participates in departmental meetings as well as supporting college initiatives Required to work some scheduled evening and weekend hours (Monday evenings)


High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
