Reporting directly to the Director of Student Affairs, the Associate Director of Student Activities, supports the objectives of the Office of Student Affairs and the over 40 Student Organizations including Student Government and respective activities at the Law School. The Associate Director of Student Activities will be responsible for a) serving as primary contact for student groups and faculty advisors as well as serving as the primary advisor for Student Government; b) conceptualizing planning and coordinating in-person and virtual student group events inclusive of working with events staff, anticipating space and tech needs, monitoring logistics for events, and attending events to ensure quality and objectives are met; c) organizing communication strategies with students to maximize event attendance and participation in school programming; d) managing and overseeing the Student Activities and Student Group budgets, including serving as the primary administration on the Law School Association Committee, and monitoring as well as approving expenditures against budgets; e) collaborating with multiple departments such as Institutional Advancement and Communications to create development and engagement strategies for student group outreach with external continuances for summer grants and other funding opportunities for student groups; e) and, supervising student workers.

In supporting and promoting a culture of care and thriving, the Associate Director of Student Activities will assist in the holistic professional development of our student leaders through continuing education programing and mentorship, and support and promote the rich diversity, multicultural and inclusive programming of our community and student organizations.

The Associate Director of Students Activities will assist in the administration of the distribution of the student activities fee, departmental and school wide events such as orientation and graduation and sit on CUNY Wide and CUNY Law specific committees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to the following):

  • Oversees student organizations including: supervising elections, providing guidance regarding the organizations' fiscal resources, acting as the “staff on call” for events, maintaining student group web content and facilitating relationships between student organizations and Law School departments;

  • Chairs the Student Election Review Committee and administers necessary procedures;

  • Creates and curates the content for the Student Affairs Weekly Digest;

  • Collaborates with numerous departments to execute commencement and other student-related events. Commencement development will include creating graduation materials, directing the selection of student-elected awardees and supporting graduation rehearsal;

  • Develops and administers programs related to assigned area of Student Affairssuch as: new student orientation, workshops and special sessions for transfer students;

  • Serves as Student Activities liaison to CUNY-wide student life councils and other relevant committees.

This job includes evening and some weekend duties. It requires patience, excellent communication and mediation skills, technological skills, collaboration with multiple departments, such as Career Planning, Institutional Advancement, Events, the Business Office, etc., and an openness to learn and create opportunities to support student needs and enhance student engagement.


Bachelor's degree and six years related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher education administrative experience and knowledge of relevant educational laws, policies, and emergent trends in the field are required.

  • High degree of professionalism and personal integrity to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team setting with diverse staff of all levels.

  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with shifting deadlines and emergent needs.

  • Detail oriented, self-directed, motivated, and proactive.

  • Experience with, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Adobe Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign), Word Press, Social Media Platforms, as well as knowledge and proficiency in the operation and use of other various software and database management software and applications.

  • Experience with CUNY information technology, especially CUNYFirst (PeopleSoft), preferred.

  • Understanding of and sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students.


Manages the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student programs and quality of life issues, promoting the personal development of a diverse student population.

  • Evaluates student needs and trends to develop a range of student services

  • Develops and administers specific programs and general activities in support of student needs

  • Develops relationships with college departments and outside community organizations to understand student needs and available development opportunities

  • Represents the College in campus-wide and university-wide groups and councils focusing on priority student issues

  • Manages staff, fiscal resources, and facilities supporting student affairs activities

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
