Reporting to the LaGuardia and Wagner Archive's Director, the Deputy Director of the Archives primarily manages the Archive's programs, as well as the day-day activities within the office. An integral part of the Archives’ educational outreach program and face of the Archives to CUNY, elected and government officials. The Deputy Director assumes full responsibility of the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives in the absence of the Director.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and manage the LaGuardia and Wagner Archive’s expanding public programs, both on and off-campus.

  • Liaison to faculty and students on research projects based primarily on collections at the Archives and help shepherd research projects to completion;

  • Manage the publication of calendars;

  • Oversee the budget and social media presence;

  • Secure cold storage space for archival collections;

  • Conduct oral history interviews with individuals or groups who have connections to the collections at the LaGuardia Wagner Archives;

  • Manage a varied portfolio of program documents, including the Archive's educational materials, annual history calendar, and additional materials;

  • Oversee the Archive’s educational and outreach programs to the community on new collections and public programs;

  • Manage the use of the archives for teaching and learning for LaGuardia students, faculty, and staff.

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships critical to the ongoing development and delivery of programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced Degree preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of New York City History including and a record of achievement in some aspect of public history.

  • Experience in museums or archives highly desirable.

  • Excellent research and writing skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages a campus museum, gallery, or art facility.

  • Creates, curates and promotes high quality exhibitions; fosters educational programs around exhibits and/or collections

  • Oversees various functions of the Center/Museum, including but not limited to budget, installations, contract negotiation, publicity and artistic focus

  • Cultivates and maintains community and cultural relationships and partnerships; develops sponsorship initiatives and secures other funding opportunities

  • Works with campus academic and administrative departments to support College’s mission and goals

  • Hires and supervises staff as needed

  • May act in absence of Director

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
