CUNY Early Engagement Specialist – ASAP in Queens, New York
Reporting to the Associate Director of ASAP or her designee, the Early Engagement Specialist will play a key role in connecting students to the ASAP community and will contribute to ASAP’s missions of student retention and success. The Early Engagement Specialist will be responsible for strategically developing collaborative relationship with campus and community partners to provide increased engagement opportunities for ASAP students and enhance the student experience. In addition, this role enhances opportunities for community engagement by fostering a supportive, positive and impactful environment while promoting peer connection, and student support services on and off campus. This role will be responsible for identifying ASAP students’ areas of need in order to provide comprehensive support and connection to campus resources.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview duties, essential responsibilities include:
Develop engagement strategies to support student success and assist program in meeting retention benchmarks
Connect new and continuing ASAP students to campus resources and engagement opportunities
Provide training and resources on topics related to student engagement to ASAP staff members
Develop and facilitate workshops on student engagement topics, including but not limited to: Co-Curricular Involvement, Time Management, Study Skills, Learning Styles, Financial Aid, Stress Management and Test Anxiety
Collaborate with all ASAP peer groups (SI, Peer Mentoring, Student Ambassadors, FCI liaison) to ensure comprehensive programming
Provide tailored support and outreach to various student populations
Participate in the planning and execution of ASAP departmental events
Maintain up to date student records and track data on programming and outcomes
Other duties as assigned
Some evening and weekends may be required
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in an appropriate discipline and four years related experience.
Experience in higher education or working with college students strongly preferred
A strong understanding of the needs of a diverse student population
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
Experience developing, organizing and delivering presentations to students and staff
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Experience providing coaching and mentoring to motivate learning and engagement
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CUNYFirst/Peoplesoft and the ability to learn new systems as needed

Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. The ASAP Advisor is a member of an integrated College team providing individual academic, career and related support to an assigned group of college students as they progress through the program.
Delivers comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion
Conducts workshops and group advisement on topics of relevance and interest
Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services
Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success
Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs
Supports annual recruitment of students
Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff
Performs related duties as assigned.
