York College invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Facilities.

Located in the center of major economic revitalization projects in downtown Jamaica, Queens, the York College/CUNY modern 50-acre campus comprises seven buildings that house a variety of instructional, student support services, and recreational spaces including science and computer labs, a music and television studio, a two story library, a 1,500 seat and a 150 seat Performing Arts Center, and a Physical Education Center featuring a gymnasium, an Olympic-size swimming pool, indoor/outdoor track and a health center.

Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance/Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director for Facilities provides strategic leadership, coordination and administrative oversight of the overall direction of building and open space planning and design projects to meet the needs of the College for capital, preservation, rehabilitation and maintenance projects. Units reporting to the Executive Director of Facilities include: Building and Grounds, Campus Planning, the Office of Special Events, Custodial Services, and Environmental Health & Safety.

Duties include:

Directs and implements plans to promote revenue generation through special events lease agreements and the maximization of space utilization

Develops and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness of the physical environment

Develops and implements capital plans to improve the physical environment which support teaching and learning

Serves as the college’s liaison to the CUNY Department of Design, Construction and Management(DDCM), the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York(DASNY), and other related New York State and City agencies with direct bearing on construction, design, and facilities stewardship

Prepares and manages annual and multi-year operating budgets

Serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and as a member of the Vice President for Administrative and Finance Senior Management Team

Leads and develop the policies, procedures and systems to support the delivery of efficient and effective services to the college community

Serves as Chief Facilities Planning Officer for York College’s full and part-time, non-teaching instructional staff, and classified staff employees

Fosters an environment that promotes and supports professional competency, teamwork, accuracy and innovation

Establishes performance indicators for each unit

Directs the collection of appropriate data to assess outcomes and support decision making

Directs the publication of facilities reports to the college community


This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. In addition, the following qualifications are highly preferred:

A baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field of study from an accredited university;

Ten years of progressively diversified and responsible experience in the management and/or operation and maintenance of buildings with at least 5 years of supervisory experience over professionals, building trades, and custodial services.

The successful candidate will be well organized with strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability work as part of a team handling multiple projects simultaneously.

The ability to interface with all levels of employees in a unionized and public sector environment is a plus.




Salary for this position is commensurate with education and experience, with a maximum salary of $170,00.
