Reporting to the Director of Faculty and Staff Relations, and working closely with the Executive Counsel/Labor Designee, the Human Resources Coordinator performs comprehensive human resources duties including HR functions related to recruitment and timekeeping/leave management, classification, payroll/compensation, performance management, onboarding, and labor and legal affairs. The HR Coordinator will be a front-line contact person for HR information, assistance and problem solving, ensuring smooth coordination, follow-up, and timely workflow of information and transactions.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide assistance and support to the Director of Faculty and Staff Relations in problem solving, project planning and management, and development and execution of stated goals and objectives.

  • Confirm employment eligibility by using degree verification system, I-9 document monitoring, and background checks.

  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Counsel/Labor Designee.

  • Maintain personal files for all full-time and part-time faculty and full-time non-teaching instructional staff; prepare files for review by Department and College Personnel and Budget Committees; coordinate with employees to review personal files.

  • Assist with the student evaluation process each semester, coordinate with vendor, correspond and provide assistance to academic departments, ensure evaluations are official and complete, oversee document imaging of student evaluations in the Docuware system.

  • Collaborate with HR Manager and IT in the maintenance and improvement of digital file delivery processes, workflows/integrations; provide timely, accurate and efficient preparation of physical and digital records

  • Coordinate efficient and effective administrative duties related to instructional staff yearly reappointment process in accordance with contractual, College and University guidelines

-Assist with the recruitment process by responding to applicant inquiries and sending correspondence in CUNYFirst.

  • Responsible for onboarding of Continuing Education Teachers, CUNY Start and CLIP Instructors, including preparing correspondence, CUNYFirst entries, position management; liaison to the departments.

-Assist with the operation of office accounts, and plans and monitors expenditures, as appropriate.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact and liaison with all academic and administrative offices.

  • Perform research and analysis on specific issues, as required, and independently prepare correspondence and reports which may be highly sensitive and confidential in nature.

  • Process travel authorizations, and reconcile with absence reports for full-time instructional staff, in accordance with contractual guidelines.

  • May supervise support staff (College Assistants)

-Assist with other projects as assigned.


Bachelor's Degree required.


  • Experience working in a Higher Education setting, Human Resources field, and with HRIS systems such as PeopleSoft preferred

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office Products such as Word and Excel

  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong customer service skills, professional poise, courteous demeanor, flexibility, and composure under pressure

-Detail-oriented and accurate with strong analytical, evaluative, and research skills.

  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills to prioritize work, manage multiple priorities; and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive office.

  • Strong work ethic and character with a high degree of personal integrity to work with the utmost discretion, maintain confidentiality and safeguard employee information, and handle documents with sensitivity and discretion.


Provides information and services to the College community to support the Human Resources function.

  • Prepares and executes various personnel transactions involving employee recordkeeping, processing of new hires, pay administration, and recruiting

  • Maintains an understanding of policies, procedures, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements relevant to human resources

  • Organizes and processes employee information; develops and maintains reports and queries; assures data accuracy and completeness

  • Responds to requests for information; troubleshoots issues, follows up and responds to employee inquiries

  • Assists HR managers with employee communications of all kinds; may prepare materials, conduct orientation sessions, or update web pages

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
