POSITION DETAILS

Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of IT Academic Applications Speclialist.

The IT Academic Applications Specialist serves as the central resource person for all faculty seeking to enhance teaching and learning through the use of technologies and web based resources in their courses. Reporting to the IT Academic Applications Director , he/she will design and assist in the development of interactive learning content including learning objectives, simulation scenarios, interactive exercises, podcasts, and valid/reliable assessments; ensure instructional activities and assessments align with the learning objectives; incorporate blended learning (including hands-on) activities and assessments, when appropriate; and assist the development and implementation of online course standards.

Some evening or weekend hours may be required.

The IT Academic Applications Specialist will, in addition to the duties listed in the CUNY Title Overview:

-Provide faculty and student users of instructional technologies, software, and programs support via email and/or telephone

-Assist the IT Academic Applications Director with the system integration of Instructional Technologies into the College’s LMS (Blackboard)

-Serve as the backup administrator for various instructional systems; including SoftChalk, PlayPosit and VoiceThread.

-Assist the IT Academic Applications Director with the daily management of the College’s Instructional Technology Applications and eLearning Program

-Lead faculty development courses, workshops, and programs on Blackboard and other online education tools and services

-Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive faculty training program on online course expansion and online teaching

-Administer and support online learning communities, creating accounts and maintaining user populations

-Assist with planning and administrative decisions that works best in achieving the departmental goals.

-Participate in the planning and development of policies, procedures and guidelines for the College’s eLearning Program

-Track and submit written reports to the IT Academic Applications Director regarding all development and technical support occurrences

-Provide continuous Instructional Design Training and support to faculty in designing and implementing their online courses to ensure the highest quality in online course development with strict conformity to the QM Rubric.

-Provide training and workshops to faculty and staff on best practices for developing accessible course content and implementing universal design in their courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in information systems or instructional technology. Two years' experience in instructional technology, instructional design, or distance learning is preferred. Expert knowledge of online course design, Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium or similar online learning rubrics. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills needed; customer service orientation is essential, as is being able to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Proficiency in managing the Blackboard Learning Management system is highly desirable.

  • Administers and supports online learning communities, creating accounts and maintaining user populations

  • Works with faculty developers and others to extend and enrich the use of instructional technology

  • Consults with faculty members in the design and development of engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound technology applications across multiple platforms

  • Delivers training programs, workshops, and seminars about instructional technologies; creates awareness in the College community on the features and benefits of various applications

  • Solicits and evaluates feedback from the College community on the effectiveness of instructional technologies

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
