Information Technology Services (ITS) at Queens College provides campus wide information technology support and telecommunication needs. ITS strategic services includes: supporting enterprise IT and applications; developing new technologies that advance the college’s core mission; upgrading and maintaining the campus network; operation of the Data Center, Help Desk and computer labs; application development and management and enterprise resource management.
In support of the campus mission, strategic plans and values, the Queens College Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks to fill the mission critical vacancy of Database Administrator (IT Associate Level 1-provisional) vacancy in the division of Infrastructure Operations.
Reporting directly to the Manager of Server Operations, the Database Administrator will be responsible for the administration of highly complex database management system software, databases and technology stack components. This person will also work closely with Data Management tool and applications in addition to databases.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Install, upgrade and manage database servers
• Develop processes to ensure database security, integrity and stability
• Maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure
• Monitor and maintain availability and performance of database servers
• Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors
• Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
• Set and maintain database standards
• Manage database access
• Assist with schema design, code review and SQL query tuning
• Write and deploy SQL patches
• Create automation for repeating database tasks
• Install, upgrade, and manage database applications
• Make requested updates and modifications to database structure and data
• Provide guidance and support to Application Developers
• Train and support end-users as required
• Create and manage reports, visualizations, and dashboards for internal and external use
• Process work accurately and in a timely manner
• Be available for on-call support as needed
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
-Experience with Microsoft SQL database servers
-Experience designing database applications using Java, Python or similar
-Knowledge of Active Directory and LDAP
-Experience with Oracle database servers running under Windows is a plus
-Experience with MySQL/MariaDB database servers running under Linux
-Highly motivated to learn new skills and take on difficult and challenging tasks
-Basic understanding of instructional design principles, practices and/or theories highly desired
-Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
-Ability to communicate and establish strong working relationships with multiple constituents on campus to include faculty, staff, IT professionals, administrators, constituents at all CUNY Colleges and Central Office
-Strong organizational skills to establish plans, manage a varied workload with multiple priorities, and to follow-up and complete work by time-sensitive prescribed deadlines
-Ability to prioritize tasks, time management
