GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.

I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Queens College provides campus wide information technology support and telecommunication needs. ITS strategic services includes: supporting enterprise IT and applications; developing new technologies that advance the college’s core mission; upgrading and maintaining the campus network; operation of the Data Center, Help Desk and computer labs; application development and management and enterprise resource management.

In support of the campus mission, strategic plans and values, Queens College Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks to fill the vacancy of Telephone Services director in the division of Network Services.

Reporting to the Director of Network Operations and Infrastructure with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Director of Telephone Services will provide technical support and oversight for the telecommunications system and other related systems. The support services will include routine ongoing and ad-hoc telecommunication operations (i.e. PBX) based phone system, voicemail, installation and maintenance work design, configuration and installation and/or operation of all types of wide-area premise telecommunications systems other areas pertaining to analysis, development and implementation of telecommunications service and equipment selections.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage Telephone Services staff

  • Operate and maintain telecommunication services

  • Provide technical support to campus community and ITS teams to resolve telecom and related issues

  • Analyze system logs and identify potential issues

  • Install and setup telecommunications equipment and cabling

  • Provide administrative and support services

  • Perform hardware upgrades and maintenance on the PBX

  • Troubleshoot the AVST Call Xpress, Avaya Vectors and Modular messaging

  • Tracking and record-keeping of telecommunications infrastructure, equipment and users

  • Interface with vendors and partners

  • Provide high level technical consultation and recommendations to management team to increase effectiveness of organization and technology solutions

  • Monitor, review, recommend, test and implement new software revision/feature set/patch evaluation and trade studies, period system refresh

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive telecom or computer technology experience preferred

  • Comprehensive experience of working with VoIP

  • Avaya/SPS Advanced System Administration, AVST system administration, and Information transport system experience

  • Knowledge of copper and fiber cable plants

  • Excellent communication skills

COMPENSATION

$92,014
