FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Lecturers perform teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise.
The Department of Social Work at York College/CUNY is seeking a teaching faculty member at the Lecturer rank to perform teaching undergraduate courses in generalist practice and field education curriculum, and related faculty functions such as student guidance and advisement, service activities, committee/department assignments and other duties relevant to the work of the BS in Social Work program (BSSW), the SW Department and the College.
The generalist practice curriculum follows the requirements for professional accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The BSSW program’s mission is consistent with the mission of both the College and the core values of the profession of Social Work which include service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.
The Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully are the minimum requirements for this position. In addition, the qualifications noted below are highly preferred.
Master's of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited institution and at least two years post-MSW practice experience;
Minimal of three (3) years successful teaching experience in social work post-secondary education;
Substantive knowledge of practice, HBSE, and policy; must be competent in the use of instructional technology;
The ability to promote diversity and cultural competency;
Knowledge of CSWE educational standards and a commitment to the University’s mission;
Ability to promote academic excellence and values of the Social Work Profession, and;
Strong interests in undergraduate teaching and in contributing to the growth of the York College BSSW program.
The preferred candidate will be qualified to teach generalist practice, HBSE, and policy courses, as well as field education seminars. The selected candidate must teach both day-time and evening courses. Several times per year, participation in College’s events during weekends is required.
