CUNY Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) - Counseling Education in Queens, New York

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Counselor Education Program at Queens College of The City University of New York invites applications for a Lecturer-Doctoral Schedule Position to join our faculty beginning in August 2019. After five years of service, the Lecturer is eligible for a certificate of continuous employment (CCE), which is the equivalent of tenure for faculty hired to teach and perform related faculty functions.

Queens College has two programs in counseling, a 60-credit Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) degree that leads to New York State Certification in School Counseling and a 60 credit Master of Science (M.S.) degree in mental health counseling that leads to NY State licensure (LMHC). Through a strong focus on developing students’ self- and professional- awareness, the Counselor Education Program is committed to developing culturally competent professional school and mental health counselors.

Primary responsibilities of the person filling this position will include coordination and oversight of our fieldwork placements, developing and maintaining relationships with fieldwork sites, supervise and monitor students during fieldwork, provide support as needed to faculty during the fieldwork training of our students, and conduct site visits. Other responsibilities include (1) teaching graduate courses in both the Mental Health and School Counseling programs (e.g., practicum & internship, counseling skills, theories); (2) student advising and (3) service to the Counseling Programs, Department and College.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful Candidate must have an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program. Excellent ABD candidates with a firm completion before June 1, 2019, will be considered. Candidates who are licensed or license eligible as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State, are preferred.

The following qualifications are highly desirable: (1) Two or more years of teaching experience within a Counselor Education graduate program, (2) Two or more years of experience mentoring and advising Counselor Education graduate students, (3) Two or more years of experience in university-based supervision of fieldwork of Counselor Education graduate students, and (4) Experience in working in an urban, multicultural and multilingual setting (5) Strong collaborative and organizational skills.
