FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) at Queens College (QC), City University of New York (CUNY) is searching for a full time, Lecturer to join our faculty starting in August of 2023. The successful candidate will be an engaging and enthusiastic teacher. Responsibilities will include teaching geology courses, including our large general education course, Physical Geology, coordinating introductory teaching laboratories, and participating in student advising and curriculum development. After five years of service, the Lecturer will be eligible for a certificate of continuous employment (CCE), which is the equivalent of tenure for faculty hired to teach and perform related faculty functions, but without a research requirement.
About SEES and QC : SEES brings a multi-disciplinary approach to research and teaching, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in Earth and Environmental Sciences. SEES is a leading Earth and Environmental Science program in the New York City area, with faculty and students conducting research locally and globally. Queens College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, located in and serving one of the most demographically diverse counties in the United States.
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Geology or a closely related field by the starting date of the position and show evidence or promise of success as an educator at the undergraduate level. Preferred qualifications include: experience in teaching Earth Science undergraduate lecture or laboratory courses as the primary instructor; teaching diverse student populations; advising or mentoring undergraduates; geologic research; and a demonstrated interest in pedagogy and curriculum development.
Salary range: $77,517 - $86,698 .

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted.
