York College seeks applications for a Legal Coordinator/Paralegal for the Office of Legal Affairs and Labor Relations. The Legal Coordinator/Paralegal reports to the Executive Director. The Executive Director provides legal advice to the College administration, manages litigation, and also serves as the College’s Ethics Officer and Records Access Officer.
The Legal Coordinator/Paralegal provides legal and administrative support to the Executive Director and Deputy Director in Office of Legal Affairs and Labor Relations. The duties and responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to:
Assist with internal investigations and related tasks;
Assist with performing e-discovery for litigation;
Respond to records requests in connection with Freedom of Information Law/Act, Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act, subpoenas and other items;
Manage/organize case files, including digitizing records;
Assist with internal training, for example, regarding workplace violence;
Assist with College compliance with ethics reporting responsibilities;
Assist with the preparation of various agreements;
Assist with drafting memos and correspondence to internal and external parties;
Perform legal and other research;
Perform general administrative/office-related tasks, e.g., scheduling meetings, handling expense reports, ordering supplies, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
Coursework in Paralegal Studies preferred.
Experience working in the field of employment law, higher education law, litigation, employee relations or human resources management preferred.
Prior experience working in a university setting preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a high-level administrative team.
Highly proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Prepares and maintains form documents, such as contracts and specifications; handles the transmittal of same to appropriate parties

Maintains the security of highly confidential information as per College and University policies
May assist with processing of contracts, affiliation agreements, leases, litigation records and subpoena files, employee and student disciplinary actions, human rights complaints, and other matters
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.

The salary range for this appointment is $47,861 - $54,268
