GENERAL DUTIES

  • Under direct supervision is responsible for the lubrication of power plant, pumping and/or construction equipment; performs related work.

  • Lubricates and cleans pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors and other operating equipment.

  • Assists in the operation, maintenance and repair of this equipment.

  • Reads meters, gauges and other operating equipment.

  • Keeps logs.

  • Operates lubricant filtering and purifying equipment; maintains lubricant inventory.

  • May be designated to inspect and service swimming pools and building safety equipment.

  • May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. York’s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Studies. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The college also offers five graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, and Social Work.

Located in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in New York State, the college enrolls 7,000 students from over 95 nations. Nine out of ten students are members of a racial/ethnic minority group, and more than half of undergraduates are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

The 50-acre campus encompasses seven buildings, including science and computer labs, music and television studios, a Performing Arts Center, and a Physical Education Center. It recently completed seven major constructions projects, with more scheduled for the future. In addition, its neighborhood is at the center of a renaissance fueled by economic revitalization.

York College’s Buildings and Grounds Department seeks Oilers who will be responsible for assisting with maintenance and operations of noted equipment in the operation plant:

  • Central Chiller plant including: pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers.

  • Central Boiler plant including: pumps, hydronic radiators, heating coiler and related valves.

  • Air compressors.

  • Laboratory Equipment, Fume hoods and Vacuum pump system.

  • Air Handlers, Roof top package units.

  • Emergency Generators.

  • Swimming pool equipment.

  • Building safety systems.

  • College prefers person holding EPA Universal Certificate 608, EPA Certificate 410A and Pool and Spa Operator Certificate.

This position is designated an essential employee position. Essential employees are those required to report to work even when the University and/or College operations are suspended.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Three (3) years' full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment; OR

  2. One and one-half (1 and 1/2) years of experience as described in 1 above plus graduation from an approved trade, technical or vocational high school or an approved internship program; OR

  3. One (1) year of experience as described in 1 above plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.

NOTE: For appointment to certain positions, possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.

Employees assigned to inspect and service swimming pools and building safety equipment duties, must obtain certificates of fitness for: sprinklers, standpipe, fire guard and swimming pool operators, within six (6) months of their appointments.

COMPENSATION

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.

Annually $124,758 / Hourly $59.75
