FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) at Queens College (QC), City University of New York (CUNY) is searching for a full time, open rank (applicants will be considered at the Assistant, Associate and Full Professor levels), tenure-track Professor, with expertise in Climate Science, Applied Sustainability Studies and/or Ecosystem Modeling to join our faculty starting in August of 2023. The candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program, to mentor research students, and to support SEES academic programs by teaching and developing courses in Earth and Environmental Science, including courses in climate science and sustainability at an introductory and advanced level.
About SEES and QC : SEES brings a multi-disciplinary approach to research and teaching, at the undergraduate and graduate (masters) levels, in Earth and Environmental Sciences. SEES faculty are also members of the Doctoral programs at the CUNY Graduate Center, including in Earth and Environmental Sciences. SEES is a leading environmental science program in the New York City area, with faculty and students conducting research locally and globally. Queens College is a Hispanic Serving Institution as well as an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution, located in, and serving, one of the most demographically diverse counties in the United States.
QUALIFICATIONS
A doctoral degree in Environmental Science, Climate Science or a closely related field (e.g. Ecology, Geosciences, Natural Science fields, etc.) before time of appointment, demonstrated history of research, publications and prior funding in a climate science-related field and at least two years of experience teaching science at the college level are required. Preferred qualifications include development or use of environmental models as a primary approach in your research; experience in actionable science that has been related to environmental management, policy, or sustainability initiatives; experience teaching diverse student populations and mentoring research students; experience teaching climate science, sustainability, risk management and environmental modeling focused courses as the primary instructor; experience leading large externally funded environmental research initiatives.
COMPENSATION
Salary Ranges:
Assistant Professor: $86,645 to $99,532
Associate Professor: $93,491 to $117, 805
Full Professor: $111,560 to $141,858.

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 -- City of New York employees and employees of participating employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
