GENERAL DUTIES

Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.

  • Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment

  • Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions

  • Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff

  • Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories

  • Maintains safety and hygiene standards

  • Documents laboratory activities

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting directly to the Director of Administration of Aaron Copland School of Music, the Senior College Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing instructional support for students and faculty to improve competencies and skills in meeting course objectives.

Additional duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Provide specialized instructional support to teachers and students in classrooms and rehearsal/practice rooms in support of coursework in the Aaron Copland School of Music Program

  • Tune, repair, and generally maintain an inventory of 100 upright and grand pianos, as well as harpsichord and fortepianos, for faculty and student classroom/coursework use

  • Performs concert level tuning and maintenance of pianos for summer workshops, music festivals and concerts, rentals, and recordings held at the School of Music

  • Performs program-related administrative duties such as keeping inventory log and ordering supplies and parts for pianos, as well as assisting with any administrative piano issues

  • May be required to appraise and evaluate outside instruments for either donation or purchase

  • Monitor any problems with the Maynard-Walker Memorial Organ in LeFrak Concert Hall and arrange for qualified technicians to service the organ as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of classical music and applied keyboard skills

  • Experience with inventory logging and ordering supplies

  • Significant experience with pianos and their maintenance and tuning

COMPENSATION

$50,332 - $60,293; Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
