CUNY Assistant/Associate Professor of Education in Staten Island, New York
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The School of Education of the College of Staten Island, a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY) is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning September 2018.
The successful candidate will serve as a key faculty member of a nationally recognized program, and will be expected to engage in the development of new initiatives in early childhood education. Candidates should expect to engage in the advisement of students, assignment to undergraduate and graduate level teaching as well as to supervision of early childhood field experiences in a variate of program locations. As well, the successful candidate will also be expected to develop new courses and work closely with other concentrations within the School of Education and with the liberal arts and science departments.
The College of Staten Island is a leading publicly funded unit of The City University of New York (CUNY) located in the fastest growing borough of New York City. It is a comprehensive liberal arts and technology institution with a commuter student population. Dormitories opened in fall 2013. Free shuttle service is offered from the Staten Island Ferry to the CSI Campus. It is fully accessible from the other boroughs of the City and New Jersey by car and public transportation. CSI is also home to the CUNY High Performance Computing Center and outstanding computational assets are available for research purposes, including a broad portfolio of statistical tools and social science data resources. It is situated on 204 acres of wooded grounds with nineteen buildings constructed in the Georgian style.
In addition to the 43 undergraduate and 18 master's degree programs, CSI participates in the doctoral programs of The City University Graduate School and University Center. The school's location in New York City enables it to draw on the vast economic and cultural resources of the city. It also provides opportunities for faculty to interact with practitioners in industry and with researchers at other colleges and universities in the metropolitan area. Ph.D. or Ed.D., and those who are ABD, in one of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Special Education with a specialization in Early Childhood, Bilingual Education with a specialization in Early Childhood, or TESOL with a specialization in Early Childhood. A significant commitment to research and publication in early childhood, to performing service for the department, college and professional field, and to teaching will be required for tenure and promotion.
Experience teaching in higher education, teacher certification in early childhood, teaching experience in infant/toddlers, pre-K, and/or K, and interest in alternative pedagogical approaches. The candidate must also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. Expertise in one or two of the following content areas: curriculum development for children with developmental, language, and cultural variations; language acquisition and development, inclusive of second-language acquisition; special education history, policies and methods; assessment, diagnosis and evaluation of linguistically diverse children with developmental variations; and TESOL theory and methods.
Assistant Professor: $47,340 - $81,855 Associate Professor: $61,394 - $97,628
